Don Walsh, Underwater Explorer (via Good)

Lieutenant Walsh descended 35,798 feet below the surface of the Ocean in 1960, a world record. He was accompanied by scientist Jacques Piccard who shared the record until his death in 2008. The Navy banned all diving below 20,000 feet immediately afterwards. The article includes some sweet graphics (as always).
