I bought the album. I went to the concert. I watched that rickety 16mm film. And soon, I will buy the graphic novel.
I admit to having a healthy skepticism towards rock operas, but the lyrics and simple melodies in Neil Young’s Greendale expressed much of what I felt and thought in 2003. (this, in sharp contrast to his blunt and ineffective follow-up album Living with War). Now seven years later, I’m glad to see the story is still alive. If you haven’t already, I suggest you give Greendale a listen.
